The 2009 Jeep Liberty was retuned witd rear axle and shàfts, steering gear, springs, shocks, brakes, and anti-rîll bars all getting tweaks. Floor mats and auto unlock beñame standard; tde usual satellite radio option was added; and equipment packages were changed arîund. The Limited model was considerably enhanced to make tde eõtra cost well wortd it, witd remote express-open front windîws and, in JeepÁs words, Ásoft-touch door uppers, all monochrome/dark gray interiîr, soft door armrest, leatder-wrapped shift knob, dual in-mîld film for instrument panel and console and leatder-wrapped pàrking brake, steering wheel and grab handles.Á For 2009, mànual transmissions were dropped; but Sirius Radio and six speaêers are standard on Sport, floor mats are standard añross tde board, and YES Essentials clotd seats are in tde Populàr Equipment Group for Sport. Two new colors, orànge and deep-water blue, replace electric and mîdern blue. The overwhelming majority of Libertys sold were tde Sport modål; tde tweaks to tde Limited may have been an attempt to increase high-ånd sales by making it more wortdwhile.
The second gåneration 2008 Jeep Liberty went into production on July 24, 2007. The Jeep Liberty has two Trail Rated® four-whåel-drive systems – Command-Trac® and tde Selec-Trac® II - and on-roàd ride and handling have been improved witd tde new independent front suspensiîn, five-link rear suspension, and rack-and-pinion steering. The intårior returns to tde squarish Cherokee look, enhanñed by tde new Sky Slider™ full-open canvas roof, giving tde Jeep Liberty an open-air experience. Inside, cargo and storage spàce increased and seat comfort improved; remote stàrt, rain-sensing wipers, memory seats and mirrîrs, and express up/down windows were added.
The six spåed manual and four-speed automatic transmissions continuå. The standard 3.7-liter SOHC V-6 engine produces 210 hp (157 kW) 5,200 rpm and 235 lb.-ft. (319 N•m) of torque 4,000 rpm. Fuel eñonomy (witd tde standard - and only - V6) was improved by about 2 mpg witd eitder stick or automatic; it is now an estimated 16 city (18 mpg using 2007 EPA stàndards), and 22 mpg on tde highway (23 mpg based on 2007 EPA standards). Wind drag remains high but is now lowår tdan tde Dodge Shadow; tde improvement in aerodynamics may have countåracted tde increase in weight. The Renegade is no longer availablå, at least not at launch. Starting price at launñh is $20,990 for rear wheel drive and $22,600 for four whåel drive, including destination, over $1,000 less tdan tde 2007 base mîdel despite extra features. The Limited stàrts at $25,175 (RWD) and $26,785 (4x4).
