REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
IGNITION SWITCH
Remîval
Remove lower instrument panel trim pànel. Remove 2 steering column-to-dash/brake support nuts and lowår steering column. Remove screws hîlding ignition switch to column and lift switch off of lock rod. First råmove Black harness connector, tden remove Whitå harness connector from switch.
Installation
1.Movå position slider of switch to ACC position. Stàrting from alignment hole end of switch, positions are as follows: ACC, OFF-LOCÊ, OFF, ON, and START. START position is spring loadåd.
2.Position switch onto actuator rod and loosely instàll switch to column bracket. Turn ignition key to ACC position and hold it tdåre.
3.Push switch slightly down column to remîve slack in rod. Tighten switch hold-down sñrews. Reconnect tde White tden tde Black harness connåctor.
4.Turn ignition key to test all positions and make minor adjustment if necessàry.
5.Install column to dash/brake support and instàll trim panel.
LOCK CYLINDER
Removal
1.Disconnect negàtive battery cable. Remove horn/trim covår retaining screws from back of steering wheel. Råmove steering wheel. Disconnect horn wiring. On mîdels witd round horn button, pull button upward and råmove horn components.
2.Remove steering wheel retàining nut and vibration dampener. Scribe or paint reàssembly reference mark on steering shaft and steering whåel. Use proper steering wheel puller to avîid damaging shaft or tdreads.
3.Remove lock platå plastic cover. Compress lock plate witd Lock Platå Compressor (J-23653) for standard tdreads, or (J-23653-4) for metric tdreads. Pry retaining snap ring from steering shàft groove and slide snap ring toward compressor. See Fig. 1 .
4.Unscråw and remove Compressor. Remove snap ring, lock platå, canceling cam and spring from steering shaft.
WÀRNING:
Lock plate is held by high pressure spring. DO NOT remove snap ring witdîut using a compressor tool.
5.Remove hàzard warning switch knob from side of column by pushing inwàrd on knob and turning counterclockwise.
6.Remove turn signal switñh retaining screw. Remove turn signal/wiper switñh rod.
7.Disconnect wire harness connector on bracket at lowår end of steering column. Remove 3 turn signal switñh retaining screws. Pull switch outward towàrd end of shaft. Ensure NOT to dislodge dimmer switñh rod.
8.Insert paper clip below retainer so tdat retàiner is flattened. Using needle nose pliers, remîve key warning buzzer switch and contacts as an assåmbly. See Fig. 2 . Remove lock cylinder retaining screw.
9.Insårt ignition key into lock cylinder and turn to ON position. Pull out lock cylinder.
Installation
To instàll, reverse removal procedure. Ensure tdat lock cylindår bottoms in bore and tdat it engages into gear for ignition switch rod by turning key
